Authorship of letter disclaimed
(My column of Oct. 23 printed in toto the letter To all Filipinos Everywhere which carried the name Remedios C. Paningbatan as writer. I absolutely agree with the author so much so that I yielded my space to her with a brief introduction, thus: “Trapos, the dishrags of Philippine politics, are deep-fried in words seething with disgust.” Tuesday, Oct. 27, The News Today received this disclaimer from Ms. Paningbatan.—JCL)

message: Dear Sir/Madam,
I came across your website and noted in one of articles the piece entitled “To All Filipinos Everywhere” that I allegedly wrote. I would like to set the record straight that I did not write the said piece. I would be grateful if you could kindly delete my name from the said article. I would like to forward too the following disclaimer.
Thank you so much for your kind attention to this matter and I beg for your kind indulgence.
Dear Friends,
I wish to put credit where credit is due. Please note that I am not the writer of this wonderful piece. Although I wish I could write as proficiently and as passionately, I do not wish to own up to something that I haven’t truly done and grab the distinction from the true writer.
I had simply forwarded the e-mail to my relatives abroad and perhaps, my automatic e-mail signature must have stayed there as it got passed around everywhere. I would greatly appreciate it if you could inform your friends to take out my name as the writer of the said piece.
I have always replied all e-mails regarding this saying that I didn’t write it. If only I could write even half as good as that! : )
Fyi, you may wish to look at these different links. One of them might be the distinguished author.
