San Jose, Tobias Fornier towns vie for Excellence Award
SAN JOSE, Antique – The Municipal Government of San Jose de Buenavista and Tobias Fornier vie for the Regional Search for Regional Excellence in Local Governance Awards after winning the provincial level competition of the Category A – 1st to 3rd Class and Category B–4th and 6th Class Municipalities.
The Provincial Government of Antique also qualifies for the Regional Search Province category.
Excellence in Local Governance (EXCELL) is a search conducted to evaluate the over all performance of the local government unit in various aspects, said Ma. Irmina Magbanua, Local Government Operations Officer V-DILG Antique.
Category A-1st to 3rd Class towns include Hamtic, Sibalom, San Jose, San Remigio, Caluya, Culasi and Bugasong while, Category B- 4th to 6th class towns are Anini-y, Tobias Fornier, Belison, Patnongon, Valderrama, Laua-an, Barbaza, Tibiao, Sebaste, Pandan and Libertad.
Among the areas evaluated are Local Legislation, Administrative Governance, Social Services, Economic Development and Environmental Management. Best practices and innovations in local governance are also included in the evaluation.
Mayor Rony Molina of San Jose said that the award is another achievement of the entire local government unit who worked hard to deliver quality services and advance the welfare of the constituents. He also said that the award will serve as inspiration to strengthen his commitment of making San Jose economically progressive and ecologically balanced urban community where social services are accessible to the people.
Rosario F. Maza, Provincial Director, DILG Antique said that the local government units tried their best in meeting the indicators of responsive local governance however, there is still a need to focus programs and services specific to the needs of the people in the barangays.
The Regional Awards Committee composed of various agencies will conduct onsite validation on November 5-6, 2009 for the municipal and provincial categories.
Among the agencies involved in the Provincial Search Committee are Departments of Environment and Natural Resources and Education and Offices of the Provincial Government namely Health, Treasurer, Planning and Development and Agriculture.
