SP defers appointment of new CEO head
Even before the appointment of the current officer-in-charge of the City Engineers Office (CEO) is confirmed by the Sangguniang Panlungsod, a new name cropped up as recommendee for the post.
In last Wednesday’s regular session, the proposal of Councilor Jose Espinosa III for the confirmation of Engr. Mike Chin Jr. as new CEO head was deferred by the city council.
Chin, a barangay official, is being pushed to take the position after Engr. Marito Amatorio retired. Amatorio’s retirement created a vacuum at the engineer’s office. The position was temporarily assumed by Engr. Llane Opinion. However, Opinion’s confirmation was stalled at the city council.
Mayor Jerry Treñas favored the appointment of Opinion as the CEO head. He, however, left the decision to the members of the city council which has the authority to confirm the appointment. The appointment as CEO is mandatory as provided by the Local Government Code of 1991.
Chin’s appointment came as a surprise to the members of the city council since at present he is not holding any position at the CEO. The only link he has is being an ally of Molo Association of Barangay Captain (ABC) president Reyland Hervias. Hervias is also a close-ally of Presidential Legal Counsel Raul Gonzalez Sr.
