SUGA: MasKAHALAM-UTAN
The Silay United Group of Artists (SUGA) is an active group of young artists in Negros and it was founded in February 21st 2009. The group participates actively in various arts-related activities for the development of Philippine arts in Negros and has held several art exhibits in the country.
The group is the Balay Negrense Museum artists-in-residence and is now exhibiting their artworks at The Negros Museum, Bacolod City. Entitled MasKAHALAM-UTAN, this opened last Oct. 2 and closed on Oct. 22.
The exhibiting artists were Ian Valladarez – Continuous Wire Sculpture, Alden L. Macazar – Terracotta, Edsie J. Sazon – Acrylic on Canvas, Roderick A. Tijing – Oil on Canvas, Russel Tan – Pen on paper, Emai Sasedor–Acrylic on Canvas, Sheene Diatera – Acrylic on Canvas, Antonio Gaston Calderon – Acrylic on Canvas, Norman Gaston – Pen on paper, Ikky Gaston Puey – Pen on paper, Noby Juno – Acrylic on Canvas, Carlos H. Ruiz – Acrylic on Canvas, Sony Golez – Oil on Canvas.
The opening of the exhibit was successful. Charlie Co, a promising Negrense artist delivered his inspirational speech, which focused on courage and motivation to continue the spirit of art in Negros.
