City awaits Treñas’s big announcement
What will Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas announce tomorrow relative to his political plans?
Even the city government department heads and the mayor’s close allies do not have any idea as they also await the big announcement.
Sources said Treñas did not give any hint about his political plans during the weekly meeting with the department heads.
It was learned that the mayor will be accompanied by his family and close friends when he makes his political plan public at the Treñas Law Office.
On the day the mayor will divulge his plan, Vice Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog will also make public his entire slate. Mabilog will run as city mayor against Presidential Legal Counsel Raul Gonzalez Sr. Reportedly, Mabilog’s group will have Councilor Perla Zulueta as their congressional candidate.
It was not immediately known under what political party Mabilog will run. Earlier, Mabilog wants Treñas to join their group. However, the mayor turned down the offer.
Reportedly, Treñas was slighted when Mabilog made a statement in a gathering of barangay leaders about the alleged rampant grease money (SOP) involved in the city’s different projects.
If Treñas chooses to run as congressman, the Gonzalez-Treñas group will fall. Incumbent Representative Raul Gonzalez Jr. will also run to complete his three-year term as congressman of the city.
The Gonzalez-Treñas clash in the congressional race could have been avoided if the Senate approved the Redistricting Bill proposed by the younger Gonzalez as both can run for congressman.
