DOLE deploys 500 nurse-trainees in 100 municipalities in WV
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), in partnership with the Department of Health (DOH) and the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC), deployed anew 500 nurse-trainees in identified municipalities in Western Visayas for the 2nd batch of the Nurses Assigned in Rural Service (NARS) Program.
The nurse-trainees were deployed in 100 covered municipalities in the Region effective October 9, immediately after attending the program’s orientation and receiving their medical kits and NARS Manuals.
They would be assigned in their areas of assignment for six months wherein the three months would be performed in hospitals and the remaining three months would be in rural health units and public schools, where medical services are mostly needed.
In Aklan, 75 nurse-trainees were assigned in 15 towns, 85 in 17 towns of Antique, 85 in 17 towns of Capiz, 145 in 29 towns of Iloilo, 20 in 4 towns of Guimaras, and 90 in 18 towns of Negros Occidental or at an average of 5 per town.
Crispin D. Dannug, Jr., DOLE 6 Asst. Regional Director, said the number of nurse-trainees for the 2nd batch increased from 480 to 500 due to the additional number of covered municipalities in the provinces of Antique, Capiz and Guimaras.
They would be given an allowance of P8,000 a month and issued Certificates of Completion by partner-agencies at the end of their training, he added.
The 1st batch of NARS program ended last September 30 which benefited a total of 408 nurse-trainees.
The NARS Project was launched by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo during the Multi-Sectoral Summit against Global Crisis, last February, in line with the pump-priming strategies aimed at mitigating the effects of global economic slowdown through the creation of employment.
