50 recruited to work under NYSC in Western Visayas
Fifty Out-of-School Youths in Western Visayas were recruited under the Youth Conservation Corps component of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program, aimed to underscore the importance of the youth in community action.
Mr. Eduardo Guevarra of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Region 6, who is the focal person of the NYSC program disclosed in PIA telephone interview that NYSC was created by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo through EO 788, a policy that promotes the role of the youth 18 to 24 years old in the National Youth Service Corps which will be handled by the DepED, and Youth Conservation Corps under the DSWD.
The recruited youths under the Youth Conservation Corps were deployed in Typhoon Frank-affected areas in the region.
Guevarra said that five youth-recruits were deployed in San Remegio, Antique; Valderrama, Anrique- 5; Kalibo, Aklan- 8; Numancia, Aklan- 5; for Iloilo: Janiuay- 5; Oton-2; Maasin- 2; Pavia- 3; Roxas City in Capiz- 3; and 15 for Iloilo City.
The youth under the National Youth Service Corps will undertake a two-year national a two-year national service commitment either as educator and community service staff in exchange for a modest stipend or allowance, while the Youth Conservation Corps on the other hand, is composed of unskilled or less educated youth, and will focus on environmental and infrastructure projects.
Prior to their deployment, they have been oriented on their tasks, likewise, they are also expected to disseminate the DSWD programs and activities for the Out of School Youth (OSY), and to organize OSY to become members of the Pag-Asa Youth Association of the Philippines Guevarra said.
