Panitan brgy exec dies in ambush
ROXAS CITY – The barangay captain of Brgy. Qiuos, Panitan, Capiz was ambushed yesterday morning by two motor riding suspects at the said place.
Brgy. Captain Rolando Besorio succumbed to three gunshot wounds on his head. He was declared dead on arrival at Bailan District Hospital.
Police Officer Welmar Ortensio, investigator of the Panitan PNP Station, said that the ambush took place around 11:40 a.m. at Sitio Bocboc, Quios.
Recovered from the scene of incident was one empty shell of .45 caliber.
The police still have no lead as to who are the perpetrators of the killing which took place in broad day light.
Mrs. Aurora Deocampo, one of the witnesses who was a companion of the victim during the time, said that the two suspects who were riding at the single motorcycle overtook them upon reaching the crossing in Sitio Bocboc then fired towards the victim.
According to Deocampo, the victim was driving a yellow multi-cab issued by the 1st District Cong. Antonio del Rosario for the barangay when the incident happened.
Mrs. Nejelia Besorio, wife of the slain barangay captain, said that her husband left their house around 8 a.m. going to the municipal hall where he solicited for the fiesta. He was ambushed while on the way home.
Besorio took over the post of former Brgy. Captain Dante del Mendo, his predecessor, who was shot dead last year at the said place during a benefit dance.
Del Mendo was suspended for several months after he was accused by Besorio and other members of the council for neglect of duty.
Del Mendo was temporarily replaced by Besorio since the latter was number one kagawad when the suspension was issued by the Sanggunian Bayan of Panitan.
He was permanently replaced by Besorio after he was killed.
The police are still investigating the motive behind the killing of Besorio.
