IRC probes shabu entry
The Iloilo Rehabilitation Center (IRC) is conducting an investigation on the shady deals of a jail guard allowing the entry of shabu inside the reformatory center.
IRC warden Atty. Sotelo Gardoce said that he is conducting a probe on the alleged entry of shabu inside the rehabilitation center courtesy of a jail guard. The probe was ordered by Governor Niel Tupas Sr.
He did not name who among the jail guards and inmates would be called for the investigation. The IRC is very careful in releasing the names of the jail guards as well as the inmates.
The investigation started after Joebert Balboa, an inmate surrendered to Gardoce an empty sachet with suspected shabu residue on November 5. Balboa, who is facing a murder case allegedly, serves as the “collector” of the unnamed jail guard of his illegal drug dealings inside the rehabilitation center. The shabu was allegedly consumed by inmates.
The name of the jail guard and those who have linkages in the alleged illegal drug business operation inside the rehabilitation center are withheld pending the conduct of the investigation.
Balboa allegedly decided to divulge the jail guard’s business after he has a feud with another inmate identified as Chris Talamor. Talamor is facing charges for possession of illegal firearms.
Gardoce said the accusation hurled by the inmates against a jail guard is very serious matter. The information on the entry of the shabu prompted him to order a thorough check among the visitors of the inmates.
He said it possible that the source of shabu came from outside of the rehabilitation center. The search on the visitors would be intensified to prevent the occurrence of the same illegal transactions.
In July 2008, they have also seized marijuana and shabu inside the jail after a surprised inspection of the different cells were made. The same unannounced inspection was ordered by the governor.
