Mayor asks SP to declare imminent danger on Banago-Sibucao Bridge
Mayor Evelio Leonardia has requested the Sangguniang Panlungsod to pass a resolution declaring that there is an imminent danger of calamity on the Banago-Sibucao Bridge in Barangay Banago pursuant to a circular of the Department of Interior and Local Government.
DILG Memorandum Circular 2003-2, dated July 24, 2003, allows local government units to utilize their calamity funds for undertaking disaster preparedness activities and measures, provided that the sanggunian concerned shall declare imminent danger of calamity.
Leonardia cited a detailed report of the City Engineer’s Office which showed that the Banago-Sibucao Bridge is very dilapidated and pose a threat to the safety of the commuting public and to properties that will be destroyed should the bridge collapse.
The mayor also informed the Sangguniang Panlungsod that the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers has been informed about the matter and confirmed that the bridge pose a great danger to commuters.
The City Engineer’s Office, who recommended the immediate reconstruction of the bridge, is now preparing the program of work for the said project including the detour bridge. The office strongly advised that a maximum load limit of five metric tons be imposed on all traffic passing the bridge.
