More than 200 campus writers to vie for COPRE ’09 awards
Thirty-six college publications and more than 200 campus paper writers are set to compete for various writing awards at the 2009 College Press Conference (COPRE) spearheaded by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) 6.
The COPRE and Awards is an annual event which highlights publications contests and writing competitions among campus writers who have participated in the series of Basic Journalism Seminar Workshops conducted by the PIA last July-September.
The publication entries come from private colleges and universities and state colleges and universities in the region, which are vying for major awards are Best Magazine and Best Newspaper and the latest category for Best newsletter.
PIA Director Janet Mesa said the school publications which have garnered award in any of the above categories for three succeeding years, will get the Gawad Graciano Lopez Jaena Hall of Fame Award for the next three years.
On-the-spot writing contests will also be held where delegates will compete for awards on News writing, Opinion Writing, Feature, Photojournalism, Copy Editing/headlining, Cartooning, Sports Writing, both in the English and Filipino categories.
Included in the highlights are the giving of special awards on articles written about climate change, the Search for Mr. and Ms. COPRE ’09, and the awarding of the ten Best Performing Advisers.
This year, Mesa said, the developmental focus of COPRE is advocating for active involvement of campus paper writers in mitigating adverse effects of climate change. (PIA6/ESS)
