Pesina chosen as running mate of Gonzalez Sr.
Gonzalez Sr. starts tirade vs Treñas
City Councilor Antonio Pesina will be the running mate of mayoralty aspirant Raul Gonzalez Sr. in next year’s election.
Pesina was chosen in the convention of the local Lakas-Kampi-CMD party last Saturday.
He was voted upon by 199 convention participants composed of barangay officials and party members.
Former Vice Mayor Victor Facultad, a non-Lakas member who participated in the convention, only got 141 votes. He was followed by graduating City Councilor Armand Parcon with 73 votes while City Councilor Jeffrey Ganzon got 68 votes.
Pesina attributed his having won the convention to his loyalty to the party. He said that he is ready to be the running mate of Gonzalez and he thanked those who voted for him for their trust and confidence in him.
Meanwhile, Gonzalez disclosed during the convention that he has written Mayor Jerry Treñas inquiring about the status of the casual workers recommended by barangay captains who have not joined him when he declared his intention to run for congressman next year.
Gonzalez said made the inquiry after he has received many complaints that Mayor Treñas has started to terminate the services of casual employees recommended by barangay captains identified with the Gonzalezes.
Gonzalez said that he has given Treñas 15 days to answer his letter, otherwise he will be liable for violation of the Anti-Red Tape Law and may be hauled to the Ombudsman.
In his speech, Gonzalez also slighted Treñas over the Pavia housing project and the absence of City Hall.
Observers said Gonzalez’s remarks could be the start of heated political tirades against Treñas who bolted from their party and decided to run against incumbent Congressman Raul Gonzalez Jr.
Treñas has not yet publicly declared under who’s group or party he will be joining.
He has been with Gonzalez since 2001 when he was first elected as mayor. Treñas admitted that Gonzalez has been instrumental in his first election as city mayor but said that in his succeeding two terms it was already the will of the people as they have already seen his performance.
