I am disturbed by reports that a certain Citoy Arenas is running for congressman in the second district of Iloilo. Everyone knows that the Arenases are rich and can put up a good fight against the Syjucos when it comes to money matters. But what is disturbing is that Citoy Arenas just came out all of the sudden and announce his candidacy. It’s just like going into a store and instantly declaring that you are buying something no matter what the cost is.
I remember when Boboy Syjuco wanted to settle in the second district, it took him almost a year of going around trying to know everyone so he can feel the pulse of the people. He knew he was not contesting the post to be left vacant by Albertito Lopez against a no body. He was going to wrestle it out with another giant – Joemarie Gerochi.
But Citoy? It seems he is not afraid of Syjuco. Or shall I say more appropriate his mother Baby Arenas is not afraid of Syjuco. And this is what disturbs me – the seeming fearlessness of the Arenases. It sounds alarming not only because of the money that they wield but because of their connection to FVR and Jose Almonte. What do they want to happen in the second district? What are they capable of doing here?
I am not campaigning for Syjuco and I am not saying that I don’t like the guy. But I feel better with someone who goes around just to communicate with people to know what they want to happen with their district and what their representative wants to do for them. Arenas don’t even know that Pototan is not part of the second district. How can we trust someone who is a mama’s boy and who doesn’t care what the district where he is registered looks like? It appears he just wants to buy his way to congress.
Whoever is making Citoy believe that he can buy the people of the second district like lowly prostitutes should also be blamed for this. This includes his mother and his local contacts like Obet Armada and Celia Capadosa. If they can do this to us, do you think they also deserve our votes?
