Mayor Bing informs Pacman of Bacolod fire tragedy
Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia will be leaving Las Vegas, Nevada on November 17, two days after the victorious fight of people’s champ against the Puerto Rican boxer Miguel Cotto.
In a phone interview from Las Vegas, Leonardia said the Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Ronaldo Puno approved his travel abroad from November 9 to 17 to be part of the Team Pacquiao.
The mayor is one of the three belt bearers of Pacquiao as he was described by the latter as his lucky charm.
He said he was one of the fortunate guys who were present during Pacquiao’s training session until the post victory party.
He also salutes the humbleness and dedication of the boxer during the training and the determination to give our country another honor.
Leonardia also noted the unity and full support of Pacquiao’s parents, Aling Dionisia and Mang Rosalio, who were together for the first time in the United States to witness their son’s latest bout.
With his casual talks with the family, he invited the popular Aling Dionisia to visit Bacolod and said she will definitely consider visiting the city as soon as she is done with her shootings and showbiz schedules.
Meanwhile, Leonardia said he personally informed Manny about what happened in Bacolod City on the dawn of November 2, where the fire killed 17 residents.
During their conversation, the mayor said that Pacquiao was unaware of the fire incident because he haven’t read any newspapers because of his tight schedule.
“I believe that Manny has the heart to the Bacoleños especially to the victims of disaster as he also helped when typhoon Frank struck the city last year,” he added.
In honor of Bacolod’s adopted son, the city government had set-up free live feed of the fight on eight areas and barangays in the city.
When Pacquiao was informed, Leonardia said the Filipino boxer personally thanked all Bacoleños and the Negrense for all prayers that eventually led to his safe victory.
