Antique social workers, service providers undergo UNICEF training
The Antique social workers and other direct service providers are now undergoing a three-day United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) training of trainors (TOT) in Sarabia Manor Hotel here in Iloilo city that kicked Monday.
UNICEF Child Protection Specialist Anjanette T. Saguisag said that this three-day TOT is being held so that the participants could help mainstream the program which objective is to enhance the capabilities of the out-of-school youths (OSYs), who are being considered then as the most vulnerable sector in the province.
The training is focused on building the life skills of the OSYs to assist them cope with the everyday demands.
The training modules are on self-awareness with the Convention on the Rights of the Child as the basic framework, interpersonal relationships and communication, coping with emotions and stress, conflict resolution, critical thinking and problem solving, and goal setting and decision making.
Saguisag further said that the UNICEF program, that has funding from the Spanish government, is already being implemented in Antique, Masbate, Maguindanao, and Agusan del Sur. This is in support to attain the Millennium Development Goal to eradicate extreme poverty, promote gender and development, and strengthening of partnership for development.
Antique has also been chosen as one of the four provinces following survey results of high underemployment rate among OSYs, poverty incidence, and a big youth population needing assistance. (PNA)
