Treñas defers announcement of 2010 slate
City Mayor Jerry Treñas yesterday deferred the announcement of his group’s complete slate because of some “hitches” that he did not elaborate.
Treñas, in yesterday’s informal talk with the members of the Iloilo City Hall Press Corps (ICHPC), said he will solve the issue as soon as possible. The members of the ICHPC would be the first to know, he said.
Supporters and friends of Treñas waited for his announcement yesterday morning at his office in Robinsons Place.
Even barangay captains who are supporting him went to the City Mayor’s Office to listen to his announcement about the possible alliance between the group of Treñas and Vice Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.
Observers were of strong belief that yesterday’s declaration of City Councilor Julienne Baronda in joining the vice mayoral race stalled the negotiations. Baronda is firm in pursuing his vice mayoral bid.
Treñas has already thrown his support to Councilor Jose Espinosa III in the vice mayoral post. This is in conflict with the slate of Mabilog, which also deemed as non-negotiable the vice mayoralty bid of Baronda.
Baronda is on her second term as city councilor. She started her political career as ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Panlungsod representing the Sangguniang Kabataan. She then ran as councilor of the city. Espinosa has still two terms term left. He once ran in the vice mayoral race. He lost in the vice mayoral race and again ran as councilor in the 2007 election.
