3-cornered fight in 3rd Dist. congressional race as Lauron declares candidacy
“No retreat, no surrender.”
Such was the firm statement of Lawyer Zafiro “Boy” Lauron on his congressional bid in the third district of Iloilo.
Lauron declared his candidacy last Friday at the Pototan astrodome which was full of his supporters, mostly youth, from the different towns of the third district.
Lauron said he chose the Pototan astrodome as venue of his declaration in honor of the late Pototan Mayor Kido Parcon who is considered a political kingpin in the third district.
“It is now time to wake up to a new hope. Let’s end the more than two decades of deception and traditional politics,” Lauron said in Hiligaynon amid the cheers of his supporters wearing yellow shirts and waving yellow and red balloons.
During his speech Lauron became teary eyed as he could not believe that many people came to witness and join him in his declaration.
“Your presence here simply shows that you want change in the leadership in our district,” Lauron said.
There were no incumbent politicians present in the affair, but Lauron said his running for congressman does not depend on any politician. “I offer myself to the people, it’s their decision,” he said.
Lauron presented during the program his leaders in the different towns of the third district. His wife, an assistant commissioner at the Bureau of Internal Revenue, was also present to show her husband her full support.
Lauron, who is a member of the Nationalist People’s Coalition, said he does not yet have mayoral line up in the different towns but he will be supporting Barotac Viejo Mayor Raul Tupas for governor.
Meanwhile, other contenders for congressman of the third district are: Board Member Arthur Defensor Jr. (Lakas-Kampi-CMD) and Atty. Rene Villa (LP-Ugyon).
