Rotary-Central launch Xmas costume fun run
The Rotary Club of Bacolod-Central launched the 1st Bacolod Christmas-Costume Fun Run and expects to get more than 500 registrants to join the event slated on December 20 at 6:30 a.m. with kick-off point at the Provincial Capitol Lagoon.
There are various categories for the three distances – 10 kilometer, 5-kilometer, and 3-kilometer, so participants will have more chances of going home with prizes.
Event Chairperson and the club’s vice-president, Dr. Paul Brian Mendez said as early as now, “we are generating a lot of excitement and we have received commitments from various groups to participate in the event.”
Rotary Central President, Jocelyn Lucendo said this is part of the club’s continuing advocacy to promote healthy lifestyle and environmental protection. She added that proceeds from the event will also benefit the club’s project at the Capuchin House for Abused Children which they have been supporting for several years now.
Mendez on the other said the Fun Run will provide opportunity for the people to showcase their creativity as they participate in costumes and “it will make the event more festive, more so because it’s the Christmas season.”
Special awards will be given to “Best in Costume” per category or age group; the Oldest and Youngest Participant; Best Christmas Costume; and Most Number of Contingent and Most Colorful and Creative Group for the Team Category.
Winners for the Open Category for Men and Women will receive P7,500, P5,000 and P3,000 plus trophies for the first, second and third places respectively.
Mendez said that registration for the Open Category will only be P100 to allow professional runners to participate at a minimal fee but they will not be enjoying the freebies given to other participants.
Pre-registration will end on December 10 for a fee of P300 which includes a t-shirt, water, snacks and water tumblers for the first 100 registrants.
Registration fee from December 11-18 will be P350 and Mendez said there will be no on-site registration anymore to provide the organizers enough time to prepare for the D-Day.
San Miguel Corporation and the Bacolod City Water District as well as Rotarians have already committed to participate.
Registration is accepted at the Mendez Dental Clinic (Mayfair Plaza), NEDF/XpressCom at 6th St., Amjolce in Alijis, RA Designs at Plaza Mart.
