Mikaela Harder shines
Mikaela Sophia Harder, SM Little Stars 2009 First-Runner Up, already has the makings of a star even at a young age of four. “Missy”, as she is fondly called, is the daughter of Rolf Dieter and Gladys Harder. She is a nursery student of Children’s Integrated School of Alta Tierra.
She loves watching television, preferably Cartoon Network. Her favorite TV program is the Powerpuff Girls and she’s a fan of Blossom. “She’s nice,” Missy said.
During the SM Little Stars 2009 national competition held at the SM Mall of Asia, Missy presented a Tahitian Dance, to the tune of Lilo and Stitch’s “Aloha Comubay.” Her steps were quick while she expertly held on to her pompoms and maracas, making the judges admire her even more.
On why she became the first-runner up? Her mom Gladys said, “It must be because she’s graceful and the authenticity of her costume. Forty percent of the criteria went to the talent, actually. During her performance, she bloomed and looked different. Her aura was stunning. The facilitators said that her facial quality is different from that of other mestizas.”
For Missy, being part of SM Little Stars was really fun. Apart from the workshops and the rehearsals, she and the other contestants were treated to ice skating, bowling and movie viewing at Imax.
Missy had been raised to be independent, thanks to the prodding of her father. At an early age, she’s already taught to do things herself. Her cautious nature is something she took from her mother. “She watched the other kids before mingling,” Gladys said. She added that joining SM Little Stars was Missy’s decision. “She handed me the application letter given by the school. She was wearing sunglasses then and posed like a celebrity when she did that,” Gladys said.
Gladys advise to parents and guardians? “Support the child in whatever interest she or he has.”
