Oppositor of HB 4256 in Gonzalez’s ticket
One of the three candidates for councilor in the 2010 elections who opposed House Bill 4256 is with the political line up of the Gonzalez-Gonzalez tandem.
Businessman Paquito Ngo is one of the signatories in a letter opposing the House Bill 4256, a bill Reapportioning Iloilo City into two districts. He is one of the 12 candidates of Lakas-Kampi-CMD for councilor.
Ngo ran in 2007 election but lost. He is one of the aspiring candidates who joined the Gonzalez-Gonzalez camp hoping to win in the 2010 elections.
The letter opposing HB 4256 dated August 21, 2008 was addressed to Liberal Party standard bearer Senator Noynoy Aquino III, chair of the committee on local government.
The bill was passed in Congress but did not make it before the Senate. No less than Aquino opposed the approval of the bill citing the lack of the required number of populations.
The non-approval of the proposed redistricting bill also paved way for Gonzalez and Mayor Jerry Treñas to part ways.
The other candidate who opposed the bill is Atty. Joshua Alim of the Pwersa ng Masa-PDP Laban. Alim who finished his three terms as councilor of the city has been very vocal of his position over the proposed redistricting bill.
The other candidate for councilor who also protested the passage of the redistricting bill is former Councilor Rolando Dabao. He is running as independent candidate under the group of mayoralty candidate Lorenzo “Larry” Jamora.
