Panay town bags 6 excellence in local governance awards
ROXAS CITY – Panay town under the leadership of Mayor Dante Bermejo is the winner of various awards during the Sinadya sa Halaran Gab-i sa Pagpasalamat and Western Visayas Tourism Excellence Awards held at the Capiz Gym on Sunday night.
Panay won six awards such as excellence in local governance (first to 3rd class towns); Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran (GPK) the cleanest and greenest; special award in excellence in development administration; environmental management; the cleanest and greenest highway; and social services.
On the other hand, Ivisan won excellence in local governance award (4th to 6th municipalities); Sigma on economic development and Pontevedra in excellence in local legislation.
The other GPK awardees: Ivisan, 2nd place; Dumarao, 3rd; Cuartero, 4th; Dao, 5th and Jamindan, 6th. On Greenest and Cleanest highway: Ivisan, 2nd; and Jamindan, 3rd.
In excellence in local governance (first to 3rd class) Pontevedra, 2nd; and Maayon, 3rd. (4th to 6th class: Sigma, 2nd and Pres. Roxas, 3rd.
Part one of the activity was the announcement of winners and awarding of tourism excellence awards and awarding of GPK, excellence in local governance & search for the cleanest and greenest highway awards.
The said activity was also attended by Department of Tourism Regional Director Edwin Trompeta, Bacolod City Mayor Leonardia, several mayors of Capiz, and other public officials.
Panay town, it was learned, is now a hall famer of the GPK since it is third time winner of the said contest.
Bermejo, a former provincial administrator during the stint of Gov. Vicente Bermejo, now city mayor, thanked the other elected officials, department heads and the people of Panay for their cooperation in order to win such contests.
