Tourism dev’t addressed in WV confab
ROXAS CITY – A manageable eco-cultural tourism industry in Western Visayas wraps up the Western Visayas Tourism Congress held at Gerry Roxas Foundation Convention Center in Brgy. Dayao here, Dec. 5, 2009.
In his message, Gov. Vic Tanco emphasized the growing tourism industry of Western Visayas being the most visited region in the Philippines. “Tourism means more opportunities in acquiring income and can help mitigate poverty not only in this region but the whole country as well,” Tanco said.
Topics discussed during the congress are “The National Tourism Act of 2009: Its Institutional Framework for Tourism Development” delivered by Phineas Alburo of Department of Tourism (DOT), Undersecretary for Special Concerns. This was followed by , Chairman Emeritus Bobby Joseph of National Association of Independent Travel Agencies (NAITAS), who tackled “Critical Issues in the Law – Challenges to the Formulation of IRRs.”
On the afternnon, Mr. Carlos Libosada, a consultant for Eco-tourism discussed “Destination Promotion” while Ruy Moreno, Executive Director of the Philippine Competitiveness Council revealed about “Overview of the Health and Wellness Industry as a Multi-Million Dollar Business.”
An open forum and resolution followed the sessions where suggestions for a sustainable eco-cultural tourism which is considered as a natural wealth in the Western Visayas Region were raised.
The theme for this year’s assembly is: “The National Tourism Act of 2009: Meeting the Challenges of Domestic Tourism.” This event is scheduled from December 4 to 6. (Sinadya sa Halaran Publicity and Promotion Committee)
