IDFI releases P1.2M subsidy to Dinagyang 2010 tribes
Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc. (IDFI) has already released P1.2 million as subsidy and financial assistance to the 16 competing tribes in next year’s Dinagyang Festival competition. The allocation for the contesting tribes comprises the bulk of the festival’s budget which is P9 million.
Dr. Jaime Manila, chair of the committee on tribes, said they have initially disbursed P1.2 million for the 16 tribes out of the P2,935,000 total budget for subsidy and financial assistance to the tribes competition alone. Participating tribes in the Kasadyahan festival also receive separate financial assistance.
Manila said Dinagyang tribes receive financial assistance ranging from P220,000, P175,000 and P100,000 each. The subsidy for the competing tribes varies because of their performance in previous Dinagyang competitions.
There are competing tribes which ranked from the 1-10th place in last year’s festival. However, they did not meet the criteria on the number of years they have participated, said Manila.
The IDFI’s rule clearly states that only tribes which ranked from the champion to the 10th place will receive P220,000 provided they have participated in the competition for the last three years, said Manila.
Of the 16 competing tribes only eight tribes met such requirement. The tribes which ranked from the 11th to 15th place will also receive P175,00 subsidies. There are also three new competing tribes which performed well in last year’s competition. However, they are not entitled to receive a subsidy, said Manila.
Manila added the foundation agreed that the three new tribes will instead receive a financial assistance of P100,000 each. These three tribes are the Tribu Himal-us of the province of Guimaras, Tribu Bola-bola and Tribu Pan-ay.
The first trance of subsidy and financial assistance would be subject for liquidation. The participating tribes were required to submit their budget before the first trance of the subsidy and financial assistance was released, said Manila.
The foundation will not disburse the second trance of subsidy and financial assistance unless the competing tribes have submitted their respective liquidations.
The participating tribes for next year’s Dinagyang competition are: Tribu Molave, Tribu Ilonganon, Tribu Aninipay, Tribu Atub-Atub, Tribu Pag-asa, Tribu Bantu, Tribu Salognon, Tribu Himal-us, Tribu Panagat, Tribu Paghidaet, Tribu Milagrosa, Tribu Silak, Tribu Bola-Bola, Tribu Pana-ad, Tribu Pan-ay and Tribu Angola.
Manila expects a more competitive Dinagyang tribes competition next year since the 16 tribes are well selected. He believes no more problems will crop up in next year’s festival with the non-participation of Hamili and Himala tribes.
There were other tribes which tried to register but they failed to meet the November 30 deadline set by the foundation, said Manila.
