PGMA orders 24/7 work for Roxas City drainage project
ROXAS CITY – President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has ordered the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for the immediate completion of the multi-million Roxas City Drainage System project.
President Arroyo directed DPWH officials in Western Visayas headed by Regional Director Rolando Asis to fast track the implementation of said project for the benefit of the residents of Roxas City who have been affected by the perennial flooding problem in the city.
She said that the DPWH should work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
President Arroyo was in Roxas City, December 7, to groundbreak the P40-million Roxas City drainage system project in Barangay Banica, Roxas City.
The President, who laid the capsule to signal the start of the project construction, was assisted by Director Asis and Roxas City Mayor Vicente Bermejo.
During the ceremony, President Arroyo announced the release of additional P20-million fund in addition to the earlier P10-million released fund by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) for the construction of the drainage system project that sums up to P30 million.
The President also congratulated Mayor Bermejo, Capiz 2nd District Congressman Fredenil Castro, and Vice Governor Felipe Barredo for having the project for the Roxas City residents.
On the other hand, Bermejo said he had requested a P40-million drainage project from President Arroyo to finally solve the perennial flooding problem of the city.
Bermejo, meanwhile, thanked President Arroyo for leaving the residents of Roxas City one of the most important legacy projects during her administration. (PIA/Jemin B. Guillermo)
