BYLI… inspiring the youth to work for a better Philippines
Saturday is a time of unwinding, relaxing and bonding with the family. The weekdays are oftentimes backbreaking, and the level of physical and mental energy is going downhill comes Friday. But, Saturday can also be an opportunity to pursue one’s passion... to work on things you really love doing.
Since the past months, I set my Saturdays for leadership trainings and workshops with the youth. This is somehow apart from my regular job; but this is one thing I really love doing in my life.
In June, a good friend, Mark Borres, invited me to join him in putting up a youth leadership institute that will provide training opportunities for students and other youth in the region.
Mark Borres was one of the 28 Youth Ambassadors who represented Philippines in the 2008 Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Program funded by the Japan Government and supported by the ASEAN.
Mark and I share the same belief that our country, Philippines , can be great nation again. This dream will be made possible by working it out today. And the youth is the good investment for the future that we think of. This brought about the birth of the Borres Youth Leadership Institute, which had its “baptism of fire” with the leadership training with the youths of Cabatuan, Iloilo on July 25.
From that time, BYLI got recommendations from participants and was hired for series of in-school and out-of-school trainings and workshops. It has already gone to Guimaras and Capiz and inspired many students and youth to make commitments in making Philippines a great nation again.
On December 5, BYLI was again invited to provide leadership and teambuilding workshop now with the 37 students of Iloilo Scholastic Academy held at El Grande Resort, Alta Tierra Village , Jaro, Iloilo City.
Indeed, it was a Saturday full of realizations. All participants agreed that indeed the youth have indispensable roles in pushing this country forward and make this part of the globe a better place for every Filipino to live in.
