Impulses
Evidence of guilt?
A new record of $2.501 billion from $2.393 billion over the same period in 2008 was the money sent by OFWs, says TUCP.
This, and not Arroyo’s so-called “Strong Republic,” is the one responsible for putting the RP economy afloat.

UN says that this decade is possibly the warmest since records began in 1850, and 2009 could rank among the top-five warmest years.
The wrath of global warming is knocking at our doorstep. We must heed to Mother Nature’s cry ASAP, or else.

Journalists took the lead yesterday in marking the International Day Against Impunity and to demand justice for the 57 victims of the Nov. 23 massacre in Maguindanao province, 30 of them media practitioners.
This day must also be termed as Ampatuan Day for this is the moment that their name will somehow be etched in history not for the better, but for the worst. This, I believe, is the verdict of the public.

Drug pushers are now selling drugs outside the Iloilo metropolis.
PDEA people must do something about this. The Dinagyang fever is crawling fast.

The country’s budget deficit may hit P320 billion this year.
This is one of the “best features” of Malacanang in the eyes of the World Bank and IMF.
* * *
Only two mayoralty candidates in the second and third districts of Iloilo are nursing private armies, says the police.
IPPO chief Senior Supt. Renato Gumban must have missed a couple of others.
* * *
RPA-ABB leader Amazon Estolosso, Sr., alias “Ka Masong,” is running for vice mayor in Culasi, Antique.
I wonder what’s the reaction of the NPAs to this.
* * *
Many mediamen are now running for local posts.
I am just wondering why there is this kind of trend. Is the brand of public service in the 4th Estate not enough? How about the issue of power and money?

745 fires in Region 6 have yielded 24 deaths and P130 million-worth of properties.
The Bureau of Fire must hype up their fire prevention campaign to minimize these tragic accidents to happen anew.

Governor Niel D. Tupas Sr. has only P33 million net worth of assets, according to his SALN.
The mansions and lands he has is only worth P33M? There must be a mathematical problem on this.

The circumferential boulevard in Boracay will be named as Diosdado Macapacal road.
Like the controversial Diosdado Macapagal highway in Luzon?

Negros police met with the manufacturers and dealers of firecrackers in the province to remind them of the provisions of Republic Act 7183 on the onset of the coming holidays.
Can the Iloilo police meet with the same firecracker vendors here in Iloilo, too?

Isabela Gov. Grace Padaca was ordered by Comelec to vacate her post to give way to former Gov. Benjamin Dy.
Two LP governors down, Gov. Ed Panlilio, another LP stalwart, is next.

Jamaican sprint king Usain Bolt is no “superman” and can be beaten, his compatriot and rival Asafa Powell insisted.
As the Nike ad goes, “just do it.”

Has Congress violated the Constitution when it failed to convene within 24 hours after the declaration of martial law in Maguindanao?
Who will prosecute them if there is really an evidence of guilt or incompetence?
* * *
The SC officially junks the petition to disqualify Estrada from running in 2010 polls.
The administration needs Erap’s votes to subdivide the opposition votes.

The Ampatuan private armies are firing at soldiers.
Evidence of guilt?

A news report says that “The Badianganons will always be with you” as proclaimed by Mayor Suzette Mamon of Badiangan.
I don’t know with the people of Badiangan but I think this is so presumptive for the mayor to speak for the entire Badianganons. She’s not an Ampatuan in the first place.

Ex-Sen. “Kit” Tatad has joined the senatorial ticket of the United Opposition.
A hardline moralist in Erap’s lineup?
* * *
Rep. Abdullah Dimaporo is also asking to declare martial law in Lanao del Norte.
I guess there are also remnants of the Ampatuans there. Also, there are many other reported private armies harbored by other non-Ampatuan politicos in the province.
* * *
Some party-list organizations are against the declaration of Martial Law in Maguindanao.
I am still waiting for their reaction on the question: “Do you have any faster alternative to solve the Ampatuan issue?”
* * *
Many people have branded the Ampatuans, a former ally in the troubled south of the country, an enemy of the state.
GMA still needs to explain why she is mum in this issue.

Odd News But True:
It’s become an annual winter tale: A young 10-year-old boy gets his tongue stuck to a metal pole, perhaps as the result of a dare in a state in the US just yesterday. Firefighters used a glass of warm water to free the unidentified boy from the metal fence pole.

Joke of the day
A farm boy accidentally overturned his wagonload of corn. The farmer who lived nearby heard the noise and yelled over to the boy, “Hey Willis, forget your troubles. Come in and visit with us. I’ll help you get the wagon up later.” “That’s mighty nice of you,” Willis answered, “but I don’t think Pa would like me to.”
“Aw come on boy,” the farmer insisted.
“Well okay,” the boy finally agreed, and added, “but Pa won’t like it.”
After a hearty dinner, Willis thanked his host. “I feel a lot better now, but I know Pa is going to be real upset.”
“Don’t be foolish!” the neighbor said with a smile. “By the way, where is he?”
“Under the wagon.”
