Declaration of LP’s 2nd District bets in Sigma historic, says Andaya
SIGMA, Capiz – Reelectionist Mayor Mary Andaya, wife of the late 2nd District Cong. Vicente Andaya, said that the visit of Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, presidential aspirant, and Sen. Mar Roxas, vice presidentiable, declaring the Liberal Party (LP) bets for the 2nd district of Capiz, could be considered as historical.
“This is historical and first time that candidates in the 2nd district of Capiz were declared as LP bets and shook hands with the presidentiable and vice presidentiable,” Andaya told The News Today (TNT).
Last November 25, Noynoy and Mar declared Mayor Andaya and running mate Sanguniang Bayan (SB) member Rodolfo Simon for vice mayor under the LP banner for the 2010 election.
Councilors under the Andaya-Simon tandem, who were also anointed were: Reelectionist SB Member Pepito Adrias, Stephen Alayon, Stephen Orillanes, Joel Compuesto, Reynato Gallardo, Jr, Minda Aguanta, Atan de Pedro and Eddie Calmerin.
The LP bets in Sigma are facing former Mayor Roberto Sualog and incumbent Vice Mayor Victoria Quirao, mayor and vice mayor, respectively.
Councilors under the Sualog-Quirao tandem are: Reelectionist Norman Marcelino, Joseph Jarin, Cana Jarji, and James Layo; Francisco Melbar, father of incumbent SB member Arnel Melbar; former SB member Oca de Juan; Crispin Alayon, and Emogen Herminal.
Other candidates who were anointed by Aquino and Roxas were: Former PNP Chief Roberto “Bobby” Lastimoso, 2nd district congressman and bets from mayors, vice mayors down to SB members in 10 towns of 2nd district.
Meanwhile, Mr. Bobet Bernas, municipal administrator of Sigma, said that the town was adjudged as excellence on economic development winner by Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) during the Gab-i ng Pagpasalamat and Western Visayas Tourism Excellence awards held on Dec. 6 at Capiz Gym here.
According to him, the town has already in place its program on environmental management where it has a small budget but excellent performance.
Bernas said that the town has a whole-year vegetables farming, bahay kubo, pro-environmental programs and many others.
He said that the mayor appreciated and thanked all department heads who are responsible for the award given to Sigma town regardless of their political affiliations.
