ICHPC to treat city inmates with a party
The Iloilo City Hall Press Corps (ICHPC) will have a gift-giving activity on Saturday, December 12, to some 100 inmates of the Iloilo City Detention Jail. The activity is already on its 9th year.
The gift-giving activity would be led by RMN Iloilo’s Roberto Ladera, ICHPC president. Inmates would be treated with a fun-filled activity inside the jail located at the compound of the Iloilo City Police Office.
The yearly gift-giving activity is the press corps’ way of remembering less fortunate individuals and those who have no chance of sharing the Christmas season freely.
The activity started in 2001. Since then, the activity is given priority by the press corps. It has been agreed upon by the ICHPC members, composed of reporters covering the city hall affairs, to continue the program.
The press corps would also hand gifts to the inmates aside from the food to be served. The gifts mostly for personal hygiene were solicited by the group from private individuals and SM City. There would also be games for the inmates.
In previous years, the inmates also rendered songs and dances to add more color to the party.
