Kasadyahan 2009 will be ‘festival of festivals’
Next year’s Kasadyahan competition of the 2010 Dinagyang would be a “festival of festivals” with the participation of the various municipalities in the province of Iloilo. Initially, there are nine towns which confirmed their participation.
Dr. Eden Deriada, chair of the Kasadyahan committee of the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc. (IDFI), said the contingents for next year’s competition are representing festivals in the various towns in the province of Iloilo except for the Tribu Madia-as of Mandurriao National High School.
The eight other participating tribes for the 2010 Kasadyahan festival are: Tribu Pantat (Zarraga), Tribu Tangyan (Igbaras), Tribu Tambubo (Ajuy), Tribu Tubong-Tubong (Tubungan), Tribu Pandayan (Badiangan), Tribu Tinuom (Cabatuan), Tribu Kasag (Banate) and Tribu Himanban of New Lucena.
The Tribu Saad of the town of Leganes will not participate in the next year’s competition citing the lack of budget. Tribu Saad is the 2009 first placer in the Kasadyahan competition, said Deriada.
Deriada said they are also coordinating with the municipal mayors of Anilao and Maasin for their participation. Anilao Mayor Matet Debuque wants their contingent to use the traditional torch in depicting their Bana-ag festival. However, there is a rule that the participating tribes are not allowed to use flammable materials such as the traditional torch.
She said they are encouraging Mayor Debuque to use a torch lighted with a bulb since the flame from the traditional torch could not be appreciated since the contest is held in the morning.
Deriada added that they are exerting effort in encouraging the local officials of Maasin and Passi City for their participation. Passi City had initially confirmed their participation but they did not attend the meeting to formalize their commitment.
Tribu Tultugan was the 4th placer in the 2009 Kasadyahan festival.
The Kasadyahan festival would be a very good venue for the municipalities in the province of Iloilo to showcase their respective festivals. They are free to have their concept unlike in previous years where they have to follow a theme. The music is not only limited in the use of drums.
The committee on Kasadyahan will release the complete names of the participating towns next week.
