Dinagyang 2010 Pamukaw set Dec 18
The 2010 edition of Dinagyang Festival, Iloilo City’s premier tourism, religious and cultural celebration heats up the downtown streets for the staging of its “Pamukaw” with a foot parade from the Promenade to Freedom Grandstand on Friday December 18 at 2pm.
The parade of participants will kick off from the Promenade to Iznart Street all the way to JM Basa Street and will end up at the Freedom Grandstand, thus the temporary closure of junction of JM Basa-Guanco streets to junction of JM Basa-Peralta Avenue.
The City Tourism and Development Office (CTDO) already secured a permit for the street’s temporary closure. Motorists and riding public are advised of the road arrangement for their convenience.
Highlighting the Dinagyang season with the banging of loud drumbeats, the “Pamukaw” will showcase a preview of next year’s celebration with 16 participating tribes giving the audience of a glimpse of their artistic performances.
Dinagyang is “a religious celebration of the devotion to Senor Santo Nino, a showcase of Ilonggo culture of excellence, a promotional vehicle for Iloilo, and a unifying element for the community to work together for the common good.”
The 2010 Dinagyang Festival seeks to be a cultural menagerie and exhibitory occasion; get global attention; live up to being the best tourism event in the hall of fame; maintain its religiosity; reach out for the marginalized and less privileged sectors; continue as an economic driver of the City; and attain financial sustainability.
The Pamukaw will be joined by the organizers, participants, sponsors, Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc. (IDFI), City Government, CTDO, San Jose Parish, and Department of Tourism (DOT6), among others.
Meanwhile, the Opening Salvo on January 15, 2010 will give the first peek to next year’s tribe competition.
The Closing Ceremonies of Ayre Bayle Serye and Ms. Iloilo Dinagyang will be showcased January 17, 2010; Opening of Dance Festival, Cheer Leading and Dance, Dance Sports, Classical Ballet Festival and Contemporary Dance January 18-21, 2010; and Drum and Bugle Marching Band and Fluvial Procession January 22, 2010.
The Kasadyahan Parade, Sponsors Mardi Gras and Luces in the Sky Goes International will unfurl January 23, 2010.
