Filipinos prefer food products with Sangkap Pinoy seal
Majority of the Filipino households (77.5 percent) prefer to buy food products with the Sangkap Pinoy Seal (SPS).
This is according to the 7th National Nutrition Survey done by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
The SPS is the local term referring to the seal given by the Department of Health (DOH) to food products that have been certified as fortified with three essential micronutrients, namely, Vitamin A, iron and iodine, singly or combined.
DOH says that these micronutrients are vitamins and minerals required by the body in very small quantities and are essential in maintaining a strong, healthy and active body, sharp mind and for women to bear healthy children.
Based on the results of the 2008 FNRI Nutrition Survey said the percentage of Filipinos children, pregnant women and lactating mothers with anemia have decreased since the 2003 survey.
The same survey revealed that household awareness and usage of food products with SPS have increased. (FNRI/PIA6)
