Girl almost taken hostage by suspected robber
After he was accused of attempted robbery and arson, a man tried to take a 12-year- old girl as hostage Tuesday evening at Brgy. Bolilao, Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
Luckily, residents and barangay tanods foiled the attempt of Raymond Guillergan of Leganes, Iloilo.
At around 7:30 in the evening, Brgy. Bolilao residents ran after Guillergan who was claimed to have plans of setting on fire the houses in the area.
With the residents and tanods on his trail, the trapped suspect ran inside the Soluta residence.
According to Cora Soluta, she was awakened by the noise and saw the suspect.
“Pag-bukas ko sang jalousie nagapasulod siya nga may kutsilyo nga dala. Nagsulod sia sa kwarto sang mga kabataan nga nagakalatulog (When I opened the window, I saw him entering. He had a knife with him. He went inside the room of my children, who happened to be sleeping),” she told Ratsada.
The 12-year old girl claimed that she also attempted to run from the knife-wielding suspect. But Guillergan allegedly grabbed her and poked the knife on her neck.
With nowhere to go, the suspect was forced to release the girl.
At the police station, Guillergan explained that he has no plans of harming the girl. He added that he just wanted to use the girl as shield against those who were pursuing him.
“Gusto ko siya isagang para indi lang ko matam-an. Ambot ah. Wala man ko sala, ginhambalan ko nila nga kawatan ko. Tapos ginlampusan nila ko bato,” he narrated.
It was claimed that the suspect also earned the ire of residents in the area when he attempted to blaze the house of his partner’s first husband last Friday.
