Pamukaw meant to create awareness in biz sector
City Tourism and Development Office (CTDO) head Ben Jimena said today’s (December 18) Dinagyang 2010 Pamukaw is meant to create awareness in the business sector interested in helping the yearly celebration.
Jimena said Pamukaw does not literally means conducting the activity early in the morning as the term connotes. It signals the beginning of the preparations for the celebration which is in honor of Senior Sto. Nino.
Business minded people will have a glimpse on what the 2010 festival would be like. With the preparations and innovations, they would be encouraged to donate. They would even think of giving more donations to finance the world-class festival, said Jimena.
Pamukaw 2010 festival will be held Saturday with a foot parade from the Promenade to Iloilo Freedom Grandstand. The 16 ati competing tribes will participate in the foot parade.
The 16 competing tribes for the 2010 Dinagyang competition are the following tribes Himal-us, Silak, Ilonganon, Tribu Aninipay, Paghidaet, Molave, Panagat, Pag-Asa, Angola, Bantu, Atub-Atub, Panaad, Pan-ay, Bola-Bola, Salognon and Milagrosa. The ati competition is set on January 24, 2010.
In the 2009 ati competition, Tribu Paghidaet was declared champion. The Tribu Bola-Bola got the 1st place; Tribu Ilonganon landed third and Tribu Silak 3rd place. The Tribu Himal-us of the province of Guimaras was last year’s fourth runner-up.
Tribu Paghidaet also got five of the seven special awards in last year’s competition. They are best in Music, Best in Performance, Best in Headdress, Best in Choreography and Best in Costume. While, Tribu Atub-atub got the Best in Discipline award and Tribu Bola-Bola as Best in Street dance.
The 16 participating tribes are required to attend the 2010 Pamukaw to also inculcate discipline among the tribe members as well as leaders. Discipline is part of the judging criteria during the contest proper, said Jimena.
