Mobile groups gear for ‘nationwide’ deployment
The Philippine National Police (PNP)’s mobile groups are up for bigger challenges ahead.
PNP Regional Director Chief Supt. Isagani Cuevas said this as he bared that all mobile groups will be restructured and reorganized and renamed.
“They will have a new mission. Their main priority is that they may be sent to any areas of the country for the conduct of police operations. For example, when we sent personnel to Jolo, Sulu, we sent one company from the RMG. Now, it’s different. Either we get from the city mobile group or the provincial mobile group to be sent to an area,” Cuevas explained.
It was gathered that the restructuring of all PMG units, which is being implemented nationwide, was in compliance with the order of PNP chief Jesus Verzosa.
Under the new set-up, the mobile groups will adopt a new name “Public Safety Management Company”.
“Take for instance the four PMG units under the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, it will be cut down to a company-sized unit and will be known as Negros Occidental Public Safety Management Company,” he added.
Further, the Bacolod police City Mobile Group will serve as the reinforced platoon of NOPSMC.
The 6th Regional Mobile Group will also be renamed “6th Regional Public Safety Management Battalion.
Other units under the PSMB will be tasked to go after insurgency groups while others will take charge of the civil disturbance management works.
As this developed, Cuevas said that they will also place more personnel to the mobile groups.
“We have restructured them so that we could conduct retraining activities and send them to areas when we are required to do so,” he added.
Presently, the region’s top cop said that they are process on selecting group directors and heads of units of the restructured mobile group.
“They will be based in Iloilo City but anytime, they could be moved anywhere in the Philippines, even in Mindanao. We are now conditioning their minds that anytime they could be moved from Western Visayas to anywhere in the country,” he said./
