Trenas expresses gratitude to ati tribes, sponsors
CITY Mayor Jerry Trenas expressed his appreciation to the 16 ati participating tribes and the sponsors of the Dinagyang festival. “We are very proud all of you. Your continuing support is a clear manifestation of your devotion to Senor Sto. Nino.”
The yearly festival is in honor of the Infant Jesus. It is among the popular devotions in the country. The event was adjudged by the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP) for three consecutive years since 2006.
Trenas said it is impossible to hold the yearly event without the support of the donors and tireless efforts of the participating tribes in joining the contest.
In last Friday’s Pamukaw, Trenas, a picture of a very proud mayor said no festival could ever challenge Dinagyang festival. It will still be adjudged as the best festival event in the country. The same reason Dinagyang is placed in the Hall of Fame.
The activity was witnessed by city officials and members of the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc. (IDFI) headed by its president Lee Chuan.
Trenas said the event becomes a pride of every Ilonggo. No one owns the festival. It is the pride of the city and province of Iloilo. It continues to bring honor and pride to Iloilo.
The Pamukaw was meant in creating awareness among the business sectors interested in sponsoring the festival. People also had a glimpsed of what would be the competition next year.
The 16 participating tribes performed at the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand after a foot parade in the city’s main thoroughfares. The initial performance of the competing tribes earned applause and cheers from the spectators.
The 16 competing tribes for the 2010 Dinagyang competition are the following tribes Himal-us, Silak, Ilonganon, Tribu Aninipay, Paghidaet, Molave, Panagat, Pag-Asa, Angola, Bantu, Atub-Atub, Panaad, Pan-ay, Bola-Bola, Salognon and Milagrosa. The ati competition is set on January 24, 2010.
