Bacolod wins 4 EXCELL awards
For the second straight year, Bacolod City is the region’s Best Performing City in Economic Development.
The Department of Interior and Local Government once again gave Bacolod the Pagdayaw Award as the Best Performing City in Economic Development as part of its Search for Excellence in Local Governance.
Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia thanked the DILG for the recognition, saying the award is a validation of his administration’s work, and a testament to the award-winning spirit of Bacoleños. This award goes to our people, especially our government employees, he added.
Bacolod City was also second runner-up as best performing city among the 16 cities in Western Visayas. This year’s Excell Awards also marked a first for Bacolod by being the first runner-up for excellence in social services (city category) and second runner-up for excellence in local legislation.
In 2007, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry awarded Bacolod as the Most Business Friendly City in the Philippines, with the award given by Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo herself.
EXCELL Awards is an annual program of the DILG, in partnership with various government agencies, to recognize outstanding and exemplary achievements of local government units in terms of administrative governance, social services, economic development, environmental management, and local legislation among others.
Bacolod City was represented by Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson and City Administrator Rogelio Balo during the awarding ceremonies held in Iloilo City last Tuesday.
Bacolod City has been a recipient of numerous regional and national awards and recognition during the Leonardia administration. Its most recent awards include the Most Child Friendly City, Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) Award, Best Tourism Oriented LGU, Top 3 Best City Peace and Order Council, Top 3 Best City Disaster Coordinating Council, Best Performing PESO Office in the region, Top 6 Outstanding City Library in the Philippines, Community Service Award, and Top 5 Next Wave City,among many others.
