Incompatible program creates slight delay
Comelec-6 regional director Atty. Dennis Ausan yesterday said the compatibility of the computer programs designed by the Comelec head office info-tech office created a slight delay in yesterday’s extension of voters’ registration.
Ausan said they received information from the different municipalities in the province of Iloilo of the program’s incompatibility. There was an error on the programs sent by the Comelec national office for the use of Comelec offices.
Ausan added they they are properly addressing the problem. There is still much time to correct the mistake. The registration will continue until January 9, 2010.
He added that there are enough registration forms for the later registrants. The Comelec offices can have the forms photocopied in case there is a shortage of registration forms.
Meanwhile, Ausan urged the late registrants not to wait on the last minute of the last day of the registration to go to their respective Comelec offices. Filipinos have the character to troop to Comelec offices at 4:50 pm and blame the Comelec people for not accommodating them.
The right of suffrage is coupled with responsibility and obligation. They do not have to wait on the last minute and register themselves. The Comelec has reopened the registration of new voters starting December 21-23, 28-29 until January 9, 2010, said Ausan.
The Supreme Court ordered the Comelec to accept applications from eligible voters until extension January 9, 2010 based on the petition filed by Ang Kabataan party-list. The registration for the May 2010 polls ended last Oct. 31.
