16,908 indigent families in WV avail of 4Ps
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s “Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program” (4Ps) is now making an impact into the lives of close to 17,000 indigent families in Western Visayas.
The 4Ps is not a dole out but a conditional cash transfer poverty alleviation program of President Arroyo where only the poorest of the poor are entitled to receive a maximum of P1,400 per month provided the conditions being set by the program are met.
The first province to benefit from the program is Antique with some 9,800 indigent families from its five municipalities namely San Remigio, Laua-an, Valderrama, Barbaza and Bugasong.
Some 4,150 indigent families from Libacao and Madalag towns in Aklan have qualified for the program and 2,958 are from Iloilo City.
As part of the conditions, the recipient families must ensure that their children of school age must be in school 85 percent of the entire number of school calendar days while pregnant mothers must avail of the pre and post natal services of the government likewise must be attended by trained health worker when giving birth.
The mother must also see to it that her children could avail of other health services of the government in their health centers otherwise the grant will be revoked. (PNA)
