8,646 Bacoleños get gifts from City Government
The Bacolod City Government, through Mayor Evelio Leonardia and the city officials, started yesterday with the series of gift giving activity to at least 8,646 Bacoleños.
Leonardia, with Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson and the city councilors, distributed Christmas gifts yesterday to 2,246 elderly Bacoleños. The gift giving was held at the Bays Center.
The City Government will be giving out gifts to 1,400 Bacoleños composed of vendors, tricycle and pedicab drivers and the disabled today and to 5,000 indigent individuals tomorrow.
Leonardia said that the city government has allotted more than P1 million for the annual gift-giving activity of the city dubbed as Pamaskua 2009. The mayor said that the gift-giving, now on its sixth year, is an annual tradition of the city government to let the less privileged sectors of the community feel the spirit of Christmas.
The recipients of this year’s gift-giving were identified by the Department of Social Services and Development in coordination with the Sectoral Concerns Office and the Office of the Senior Citizens Association.
