Reshuffling of police chiefs looms in Region 6
The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) is starting to assess the deployment of its police chiefs in preparation for the elections next year.
Chief Supt. Isagani Cuevas, PRO-6 director, said police chiefs who are found to be close relatives or playing political partisanship will be relieved and transferred to other assignments.
“Just like the election officers, chiefs of police who are relatives of political candidates will be reassigned,” said Cuevas.
The election period will run from January 10, 2010 until June 9, 2010.
“The assignments of police will be assessed by the commanders in the locality,” the region’s top cop said. Cuevas said police chiefs who have served for more than two years would soon be also relieved. The reshuffling of police chiefs will take effect probably in January as part of the normal relief and reassignment of overstaying local police chiefs.
Under the existing policy of the Philippine National Police, a police chief or head of a vital police unit would have to relinquish his position after serving for two years. (PNA)
