OBO suspends building of 81-room motel at Brgy. 6
Bacolod City–Sangguniang Panlungsod Member Greg Gasataya, chair of the Committee on Environment, confirmed recently that the application of Bacolod Imperial Court for an Environment Compliance Certificate for the construction of an 81-room motel located at Barangay 6, Bacolod City was not yet granted. This is because the establishment’s construction permit was suspended by the Office of the Building Official led by Engineer Teresita Guadalupe.
Acting Building Official Head Engineer Guadalupe said that the suspension was due to a discrepancy in the Certificate of Non-Coverage (CNC) issued by the DENR-EMB VI and the actual construction; the CNC states that the construction would be for a “commercial building” but in fact it would be for a 81-room motel.
Guadalupe added that the CNC should be specific thus the suspension and request for the amendment is the same.
Meanwhile, Gasataya said that he had already conducted a public hearing last year and the issue at hand was not yet resolved. “Unless there is an amendment to the CNC and all the procedures was complied, the SP will approved its application”, Gasataya said. He confirmed that the status of the application is still the same unless the suspension order of Guadalupe is lifted. Earlier, various sectors manifested their opposition to the construction of the said motel.
Sofronia Ochoa, president of the Senior Citizens Association of Brgy 6. said that the construction of the motel would effect the schooling of the children since it will promote bad image within the community near elementary school and church. She said that the construction of the 81-motel is a bad example for students especially when this is near the road where children pass when they go to Andres Bonifacio Elementary School 1 (ABES 1) and (ABES 2).
