PGMA to inspect Iloilo’s second flyover today
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is slated to set foot in Iloilo City Tuesday afternoon for a site inspection of the city’s second flyover, according to Presidential Assistant for Western Visayas Raul Banias.
The P386.6-million flyover project is in addition to the mega-billion peso projects that she has been pouring in to Iloilo since she started her stint as President.
The flyover along Luna-Jalandoni streets is constructed under the Mega Bridges for Urban and Rural Development Project with financial assistance from the French Government.
It is being implemented by the Presidents Bridge Program Office, Public Works and Highways regional office headed by director Rolando Asis and the city government of Iloilo under Mayor Jerry P. Treñas.
The permanent flyover with a modular superstructure materials supplied by the French Supplier, Matiere S.A.S has five spans and four piers with a total length of 195 linear meters and a road approach of 87 linear meters.
The construction of the flyover commenced on Dec 22, 2009 and is expected to be completed by June 22 this year.
The structure is expected to improve the flow of traffic in the city, especially that site has been identified as one of the choke points and congested areas of the city.
The new project is also expected to create an impact as far as business opportunities is concerned and consequently provide jobs to jobless Ilonggos.
The first city flyover situated along Gen. Luna and Diversion Road was opened to the public on December 31, 2008.
These are among the legacy projects of President Arroyo together with other major infra projects worth billions of pesos.
These include the P4.2-billion Iloilo Flood Control Project, P34-million AA slaughterhouse, electrification of the main thoroughfares from the city towards the new airport in Cabatuan, Iloilo; circumferential road, among others.
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas earlier quoted that the President has poured in almost P10 billion worth of projects in this city alone. (By Perla G. Lena/PNA)
