Dancing street sweepers for Dinagyang 2010
FOR the second time, the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc. (IDFI) is contemplating of showing the dancing prowess of street sweepers in the four judging areas during the Dinagyang 2010 festival.
Engr. Raul Gallo, chair of the committee on sanitation said he and City Tourism Ben Jimena are now working on how to realize their plans for “dancing street sweepers.” The plan was first introduced in 2009 but was shelved for lack of time.
Gallo said they will still look on the possibilities of infusing the supposed performance of dancing street sweepers as one of innovations in this year’s festival. They have to consider several factors before they would approve such idea.
Gallo said they have to consider on whether the dancing-cum-cleaning act of the street sweepers will only cause delays in the different performance areas or the street sweepers themselves would only be taunted by spectators.
Gallo, who heads the Office of the Public Service (OPS), admitted he does not know how to choreograph the dance appropriate for the street sweepers. The details on the dance steps and performance time have yet to be discussed.
Meanwhile, Gallo said they occupants of the kiosks during the festival’s food festival are required to clean their premises of their waste. The garbage generated from their operation must be segregated.
The OPS will only take care of the waste scattered along the road. It is the responsibility of the occupants and the food festival organizers to maintain cleanliness in their rented kiosks.
They will also place portalets in food festival areas and judging areas for the spectators. The maintenance staff will ask donations from the users, said Gallo.
