City ready to implement salary adjustment this year
Bacolod City–Mayor Evelio Leonardia announced last Monday that effective January 2010, his administration will implement the 10% across the board increase as mandated by law.
Leonardia said that it is the usual practice of his administration ever since, as among the Local Government Units or LGUs to implement said increase as what he did in 2007 and 2008 respectively.
“In 2007 and 2008, we were one of the first LGUs to implement the 10 percent across-the-board salary increase of the employees since we anticipate the Malacanang moves relative to this every time we prepare the budget”, he added. He further stressed that this year, the city government appropriated P44 Million as budget allocation for salary increase as embodied under salary standardization no. 3. “The increase of salary per employee varies depending on the salary scale”, Leonardia said.
On the other hand, City Human Resource Officer Erman Aguirre clarified that the salary increase is in consonance with the Executive Order 811 of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
“The city is now ready to implement the salary standardization law and thus the notice of salary adjustment is already prepared by various offices for the signature of the Local Chief Executive”, Aguirre said. He also said the Department of Budget has prepared a salary schedule which the local government and national agencies will follow. For example, he said, the salary grade of a department head that was P27,259 before will be increased to 34,945 or a difference of P7,000 with the implementation of salary standardization law.
Personnel with salary grade 1 who used to receive P6,149 will now receive P6,862, he added. Meanwhile, Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson said the P44 Million has been included in the 2010 Executive Budget.
