City voters reach 243,861
ILOILO CITY has total voters’ registrants of 243,861 after the extended voters registration ordered by the Supreme Court ended December 29, 2009, said City Comelec election officer Jonathan Sayno.
Before the extended registration, the city’s total voters’ registrants are only 242,033. The figure increased after the extended registration where 1,828 voters were able to register, said Sayno.
Sayno said the district of Jaro has the most number of registrants during the extended registration. The district of Jaro posted 554 new registrants.
The district of Molo comes next with 282 new registrants. The extended registration is only for new registrants. Mandurriao district posted 265 registrants, City Proper 250; Lapaz 217; Arevalo 131 and Lapuz 129.
The Supreme Court ordered the Comelec in accepting applications from eligible voters from Dec. 21-23, 28-29. The Comelec will validate all the new registration filed in the extended period on Jan. 9, said Sayno.
The High Court’s decision was based on the petition filed by Ang Kabataan party-list. The registration for the May 2010 elections ended on Oct. 31, 2009.
