Illegal recruitment still prevalent: POEA warns
BACOLOD CITY — Despite convictions of several illegal recruiters operating in the province, the illegal activity is still prevalent in Negros Occ., POEA Satellite Office Unit Coordinator Carmen Nagum, said.
She cited a case somewhere in southern Negros Occ. where some 50 persons were illegally recruited for Canada which is supposedly a no-placement fee country, she told PIA.
Upon their investigation, it was learned that the illegal recruiters were using a certain agency that disowned them.
The case is now filed at POEA while some victims have already coordinated with the NBI.
It is the duty of the POEA to help people duped by these poseurs and to prevent the occurrence of such illegal act, she said.
Before an applicant pays an amount to any recruiter, they should consult the POEA first or check the office’ website to verify the legality of persons and agencies at www.poea.gov.ph.
She projects that more Negrenses may opt to work abroad this year as the office’ has noted a steady upward trend these past few years.
To report illegal recruiters and to inquire on their services, POEA office can be reached at Tel. Nu. 434-73-91. (PIA-LOL)
