City school board allots P54.5M for classrooms
The Iloilo City Local School Board has apportioned P54.5 million of its Special Education Fund (SEF) for the construction, completion and repair of classrooms and other infrastructure projects that will be undertaken in 2010.
Recently the Iloilo City Local School Board approved its SEF amounting to P122 million, an increase of about P14-million compared to last year’s fund.
Of the P122 million, P26 million was allotted for the construction of classrooms, P21.5 million for repair and P7.4 million for the installation of audio system facilities, Science Laboratory facilities, electrical connection and improvement of physical facilities.
Meantime, P41 million was also allotted for personnel services and P26.7 million for maintenance and operational expenses.
Data provided by board secretary Nathaniel Guillergan showed that the bigger portion of the personnel services fund was allotted for benefits of P175 locally-hired teachers who are receiving salaries similar to that of nationally-funded teachers.
Likewise, the school board is also giving honorarium to seven Muslim teachers under a special program intended for the said sector.
Based on the approved budget; some P110.6 million will be taken from the one percent share of the city’s Real Property Tax (RPT) collection for this year; P7 million from the 2009 RPT; P3.5 million from penalties; and P1.3 million from interest of bank deposits. (PNA)
