Capiz to host ‘One Visayas’
ROXAS CITY – The Capiz provincial government is firming up its preparations for the upcoming “One Visayas” activity here from March 11 to 14 this year.
Provincial Tourism Officer Alphonsus Tesoro said that the tourism event will showcase the Visayas culture, arts, heritage, products and festivals.
“Songs, dances, theater and literature and various products in the islands will be featured in the activity,” he stressed.
Participants to the 5-day celebration will include local government units, regional agencies, state universities and colleges and private sector groups if Regions 6, 7 and 8.
The first One Visayas was held in Cebu last year.
For its part, the Regional Development Council (RDC) in Western Visayas has approved the creation of a special committee under its Economic Development Committee to assist the province in the preparation for the scheduled activity.
The Council has also tackled the celebration’s initial preparations during its Dec. 4 last quarter meeting here.
In 2008, the RDCs 6, 7 and 8 officials had decided to establish the One Visayas after agreeing that it is time Visayans acknowledge the cultural bond that connects the islands, despite being separated by seawaters. (PIA/A.Lumaque)
