No movement in prices of rice in Neg. Occ. — NFA
BACOLOD CITY — The National Food Authority (NFA) assured that there is no movement in prices of rice in the province as compared to prices in Manila.
NFA Assistant Provincial Manager Jose Pacificador told PIA that if ever there is any movement, it would be very minimal since retailers are also anxious to increase prices of rice in the market as this would affect demand.
Grains Retailers Confederation President Nonito Nacion assured NFA in a meeting that there would be no increase in the prices of rice, both NFA and commercial rice in the market.
Like in 2009, NFA rice are sold at P18.25 Thai rice in Tindahan Natin outlets and P25 locally produced, newly milled rice in Bigasan sa Palengke outlets while commercial rice can be bought at P28 depending on the variety or quality.
In Manila, prices of rice increased by P2 per kilo.
The increase can be blamed to the damaged to rice fields during Typhoon Ondoy which resulted in low turn-out in production, Pacificador said.
Meanwhile, NFA-Negros Occidental assured that there is enough supply of rice in the province.
“So far, there is no problem with the rice situation in the province. In fact, there is an ongoing procurement of palay in Central Negros which is the major rice-producing area in the province,” Pacificador assured. (PIA/EAD)
