CRC warden pushes use of CCTV cameras in jail
ROXAS CITY – The provincial warden of Capiz Rehabilitation Center (CRC) is pushing the use of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras to monitor jail guards’ activities and most especially the inmates inside the jail.
Provincial Warden Arjuna Yngcong told The News Today (TNT) that he is now proposing to install four CCTV cameras at strategic locations inside CRC.
According to him the cameras will operate 24 hours and all activities will be recorded.
He said that the camera monitor has an access code or password which could only be opened by him anywhere provided that there is an internet.
However, the provincial warden clarified that acquiring the said CCTV camera is his second priority, the first one is to acquire guns where he proposed to purchase five .45 caliber, two M-16 baby armalite or AK-47 rifle.
Yngcong said that he conceptualized the idea that CRC be equipped with CCTV camera when he conducted a Lakbay Aral in December last year in Panay Island, Cebu and Bohol.
He added that in Bohol, the jail there is like a resort where there is a CCTV camera and the jail warden is from Iloilo City in the person of Felixberto Haguin who was awarded as the most outstanding warden in the Philippines.
Yngcong reiterated that inmates from the CRC are not treated as criminals since their cases are still pending in court and not yet decided thus, they are presumed innocent.
“That’s why we have a lot of entertainment inside the CRC,” Yncong said adding that he is proposing to have a library inside the jail.
He added that he is also coordinating with instructors from Capiz State University (CAPSU) to conduct classes here to teach illiterates to read.
